Masterplan to shape Chippenham’s future
Plans to ensure development in Chippenham meets the needs of residents and businesses have taken a step forward as the first stage of a masterplan for the town has been produced by Chippenham Vision.
The document has been prepared following discussions, meetings and workshops with local stakeholders.
The strategic framework document sets out the main ideas and strategy to underpin and guide the masterplan, which will ensure the regeneration of Chippenham is appropriate and meets the needs of local people and existing businesses, as well as companies wishing to invest in the area and create jobs.
Masterplanning is a positive and proactive process, providing the opportunity to think about the physical change of settlements on a large scale. Masterplans therefore have an important role to play in delivering sustainable communities and as an invaluable tool in the planning system.
The masterplan will go out for public consultation later this year. Local people, businesses and organisations will be able to comment on the document and help shape Chippenham’s future.
Chairman of the Chippenham Vision, Tom Jacques, said: “We are in the early stages of a plan to keep the town centre as the heart of Chippenham; protecting its unique identity while making sure it can grow and remain vibrant and sustainable. We have been working hard with Chippenham Town Council and Wiltshire Council as well as local businesses, landowners, residents’ groups and community organisations to help ensure the final masterplan is a realistic and deliverable strategy.”
